This is where you should answer the most common questions prospective customers might have. It’s a good idea to cover things like your return policy, product warranty info, shipping and returns, etc. Check out the examples below.
What does belly dance involve?
This is a dance form, often colloquially referred to as belly dance. It is a dance form that incorporates cultural dances and stylization from various MENAHT (Middle Eastern, North African, Hellenic, and Turkish) countries and cultures. The form that Tenth Muse does most commonly is fusion. Taking the MENAHT dances and fusing them with other dance forms including ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop and many others to create a fusion form of the dance. Tenth Muse also has a background in Raqs Sharqi (Raks Sharki) from Egypt as well as with an American Cabaret flavor.
Movements in belly dance are very core-focused (shoulders to knees) and this form is often lower impact compared to some other dance forms. We focus on isolating various muscle groups to draw shapes within the body that are both sharp or locking and smooth.
What do I wear to class? Do I have to bear my stomach?
You can choose to show your stomach in class, only for performances, or never. For class, we dance barefoot, in stocking feet, or with dance shoes. Your clothing should be form fitting (particularly your shirt) so that we can see the movements clearly and ensure you are using proper and safe technique. We also recommend a hip scarf (with coins for Beginners and w/o coins for Intermediate) to accentuate the hip movements and give feedback (audio and/or visual) to the dancer on the execution of the movements.
If you are on camera, we recommend that your top and pants contrast (i.e. one light color and one dark color) and that you avoid patterns if possible as they can create some pretty psychedelic effects.
Do I have to perform in the shows?
NOPE! That said, even our most hesitant students (Beginners usually) often choose to perform once they've completed an 8-week session. It's a bonding experience with your classmates and our Beginners usually get the most applause at the shows, cause our audience often contains a number of experienced dancers and they were all Beginners once, too.
